Rating for Mobile Phones

APriori is an innovative product rating system for mobile phones. It enables consumers not only to receive product recommendations from peer consumers on their mobile phone when actually shopping but also to create recommendations on the go, utilizing their mobile phone. APriori features the concept of dynamic rating criteria. This reflects the fact that we consider today’s product reviews not suitable for mobile phones and classical product ratings as not expressive enough. It extends current approaches for product rating and allows users to create their own rating criteria.

Augmented Reality

SwissPeaks and WorldPeaks are augmented reality applications for the iPhone 3GS to identify mountains. They can be used around town as well as hiking when you're looking at all the peaks around you and would want to know their names and height.  SwissPeaks is a joint project together with Ernst Basler + Partner and works only in Switzerland. WorldPeaks is the international version that works everywhere using the GeoNames geographical database. SwissPeaks and WorldPeaks are also available as two layers for the Layar augmented reality browser for Android.

TwiPhone wants to create a new social network based on phone activities, thus increasing the awareness of buddies talking to each other and building a baseline for initiating new user-to-user links. Search Twitter for the hashtag #TwiPhone to see recent personal communications.

NFC Based Applications for Mobile Phones

NFC-enabled mobile phones and NFC tags provide the possibility for development of mobile phone applications facilitating the NFC technology. Facility Manager has the goal to improve the quality of recurring maintenance tasks. Collected data like pressure values or correct position of the valves can be entered directly on the mobile phone. The Mobile Sales Assistant enables shop assistants to check the availability and stock information of products directly at the Point of Sale.

Anti-Counterfeiting (Special Interest Group)

Current research shows that RFID technology, and the EPC-Network in particular, can provide effective measures in the areas of product counterfeits, brand protection, pedigree, grey markets and user/patient safety. This research activity aims at understanding and modeling the mechanisms of ilicit trade as first step. At a second step this activity designs both inferred and direct anti-counterfeit solutions based on the EPC-Infrastructure in the pharma, automotive, aviation and luxury goods industry.

Privacy, Security and Risks

This work package structures the risks of RFID and pervasive computing in general, their perception by the public and develops best practices for RFID-related risk management. Furthermore, it discusses the privacy issues of RFID from a business perspective, develops integrated privacy strategies and supports the implementation of fair information practices in RFID protocols.
